Shop the online Book Fair - March 30-April 11

The Scholastic Spring Book Fair is now open ONLINE ONLY. This option was made available to us when the Spring Fair was cancelled. Scholastic has expanded the available titles in order to help meet the needs of families who are looking for books and other materials at a time when many libraries are closed.

In order for Shaker Lane to earn rewards, please click here to begin shopping from our Scholastic Fair Homepage. Be sure to click the orange "Shop Now" button.

As has been the case in the past, the majority of the Spring Fair rewards will be put towards purchasing new books for the Shaker Lane Library! Thank you for your support!

Questions? Please contact Laurel Shah (laureljmorton@gmail.com) or Jillian Anderson (janderson04@gmail.com).

Thank you and be well!

Happy New Year 2020!

Happy New Year! It's been fun hearing from the students about the books they received for the holidays. I love that Shaker Lane students are READERS! I hope you've been following me on Twitter @KrisHevenor. If not, be sure to ask your child about our latest fun game - Musical Books! Thank you to the following students for your recent donations of books to the library: Eric Hagberg, Ted Madison, and Mason Wolf. I also want to thank my fall parent volunteers: Mandy Clark, Candice Morse, and Joanna Nelson. A new volunteer schedule is up at this link - I'd appreciate any help with processing, sorting, and shelving books. Thank you so much! Happy Reading!

October News!

What a great month we have had in Library! We started off with the highly successful Book Fair. We spent the next three weeks participating in the Global Read Aloud, reading books by award-winning author/illustrator Yuyi Morales. Ask you student about her! They learned so much through her books. This week we've been enjoying classic Halloween books, and there may have been a visit from Pete the Cat! 😀 Thank you to the following students for donating books to the Library this month: Jack & Charlotte Clark, Gwen Hurley, Avery Lavoie, Abby Adams, Molly Hamilton, and an anonymous donor! Happy Reading, everyone!

Welcome to the Shaker Lane Library!

Welcome to the Library at Shaker Lane! I'm excited to be starting my second year as the Shaker Lane Librarian. I love books, and my goal is to encourage your child to develop a love of reading and an understanding of what libraries are all about. I hope you'll join me in this effort!

In the next few days, your child will borrow his/her first book(s) from the Library. All library books are due one week from the date they are taken out. Books must be returned in order for a new book to be borrowed, so please help your child to remember his/her library book on the day that it is due. When a book is two weeks overdue, I will send a reminder note home. Hopefully, the book will be found and returned. If you believe a book is lost, please let me know so that we can make arrangements for you to replace it. I appreciate your support in keeping our library stocked with books that the students enjoy!

The best way to keep books "safe" is to always place them in the same location daily and to put them in your child's backpack the evening before library day. Also, books and water bottles don't mix! Please put either the book or the water bottle in a ziplock bag, or keep them as far away from each other as possible. A soggy book makes for difficult entertainment and will need to be replaced by you. Thank you for understanding!

I'm so excited to get the year going in the Shaker Lane Library! Books are fun - let's read!

Year-End Notes

I can't believe we are down to less than five weeks left of school! What a great year we are having in the library. Thank you for reading with your children and helping them to return their books on time! As the weather gets warmer, we tend to have issues with leaking and sweating water bottles and our books. PLEASE pack your child's water bottle in a separate pocket of their backpack from their library book! Or, put their library book in a ziplock bag. We have had several water-damaged books in recent weeks, which requires that you replace the book with a new one for the library. Thanks for your help with this. The last week to check out books will be the week of May 27th. After that, all books will need to be returned or replaced. Thanks again, and HAPPY READING!
